Marcus is a wine & craft beer expert specializing is small independent brands. Chef Marcus & Aroma Thyme has been featured on CNN, Dr OZ, New York Post, New York Times, TEDx Longdock, Best Chef's America, Sierra Club Magazine, Huffington Post, International Wine Masters, Bottom Line Publications, Smithsonian (Online) and Organic Spa Magazine. The Colorado Dept of Agriculture stated, “Marcus Guiliano is the Willie Nelson of Farm to Table”. NOVEMBER 2 – Book your Overnight Flight to Madrid, Spain (must arrive no LATER than 10am)
NOVEMBER 3 – Arrive at Madrid Airport and be met for our Private Transfer into the Rioja region. On the way we'll be stopping at the medieval town of Burgos for a walking tour and a visit to the medieval cathedral. We'll have time for lunch (not included) and then continue on to our first agritourism hotel. Check-in for 3 night stay at Hotel Eguren Ugarte (w/breakfast daily).
After some time to rest, freshen up and enjoy the property, we will have a Private Guided Visit and Wine Tasting in the hotel's cellar, followed by a Welcome Dinner at Eguren Restaurant. (D)
NOVEMBER 4 – After breakfast and time to explore the grounds of Eguren Ugarte, we'll head to another Rioja vineyard and enjoy a Private Visit of Finca Valpiedra. Walk through the vineyards and enjoy tastings at both the cellar and the tasting room, accompanied by small tapas.
Afterwards we'll head to the town of Laguardia to experience a Private Guided Visit to the town's major monuments. Having built up an appetite, we'll move on to a walking Tapas Tour in Laguardia where we'll sample local tapas at numerous locations, accompanied with wine at each. Dinner on your own tonight either at the hotel or with transfers to/from Laguardia. (B, L)
NOVEMBER 5 – Today after breakfast, we'll head off to visit some smaller, family owned vineyards. Heading south, we will have a Private Tour of Bodegas Contino winery, vineyards and lunch w/wines from the vineyard. Later we'll find our way to, another family owned vineyard, to enjoy a Private Tour of the Bodegas Heras Cordón winery with tasting.
Next we'll head to the town of Logrono for some free time to wander, shop and explore this town, which is a stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
We'll head back to the hotel for our last evening in Rioja. Dinner on your own tonight either at the hotel or with transfers to/from Laguardia. (B, L)
NOVEMBER 6 – After breakfast we say goodbye to Eguren Ugarte and start making our way to the Ribera del Duero region. We'll stop on our way to experience the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Haro's Station District.
We'll enjoy a Private Visit & Wine Tasting at Bodegas López de Heredia and then head to over for a Private Visit & Traditional Lunch w/paired wines at Rioja Alta. Aftewards, relax as we're transferred to our next hotel in Valbuena del Duero. Check-in for 3 night stay at Hotel Monasteria de Valbuena (w/breakfast daily). The rest of your afternoon is at leisure with a light dinner provided at the hotel. (B, L, D)
NOVEMBER 7 – Today after breakfast, we'll head to a Bodega Tionio vineyard, that has additional properties in other regions of Spain as well, to enjoy Private Visit & Winetasting. Then we head off to Bodega Alonso del Yerro for Private Visit & Wine tasting .
Next we'll head to the town of Aranda del Duero, one of the main cities of the region for a pre-reserved lunch reservation (price not included, so you can choose your own) and time to wander. We'll return to the hotel for some down time and full Dinner will be enjoyed at our hotel. (B, D)
NOVEMBER 8 – After breakfast we travel to Bodega Matarromera for a Private Visit to vineyards & the winery with Wine Tasting. We follow that with a reservation at famed restaurant "La Espadaña de San Bernardo" to enjoy a Traditional Castilian Lunch.
After lunch, we'll head back to the hotel and you will be at leisure in Valbuena, where you might want to enjoy a spa treatment at the hotel's spa.
This evening we'll take a short drive to the town of Peñafiel to see the castle and the famed medieval square. This evening will be free to enjoy dinner on your own. (B, L)
NOVEMBER 9 – Today we head to Madrid after breakfast. On our way, we will visit the eco oil press Oliguero for a Private Tour & Tasting.
We'll continue south to the town of Chinchón to explore the history of its Plaza Mayor and castle ruins, followed by lunch at a Baroque Monastery turned Parador.
After lunch we'll go a bit further south to visit Señorío de Val Azul for a Private Tour & Tasting. Afterwards we'll make our way to Madrid to check-in for a 2 night stay at Iberostar Las Letras (w/breakfast daily). This evening you can wander Madrid on your own for dinner. (B, L)
NOVEMBER 10 – This morning after breakfast we'll enjoy a Private Guided Walking Tour of Old Madrid (Royal Palace tickets included). The afternoon is completely free for you to stroll, shop and enjoy the city.
This evening we'll celebrate with a Farewell Dinner & Flamenco Show at Corral de la Moreria. (B, D)
NOVEMBER 11 – After breakfast it's goodbye to Spain, with a Private Transfer to Madrid Airport for flight back to NY. (B)
