October 19 - Overnight flight from NY to Lisbon
October 20 - LISBON, PORTUGAL - Pickup at the airport and transfer to our hotel. Spend the afternoon exploring this charming, old world city with its beautiful views of the sea.
October 21 - LISBON - Today you can enjoy a city tour of of Lisbon including the Belem Tower and the Monument to Discoveries. You'll have free time in the afternoon to explore the neighborhoods of the city and find a charming restaurant for dinner OR maybe an optional excursion to have dinner with a Portugese family followed by a live concert of traditional Portuges Fado music.

October 22 - LISBON - Today you may choose a guided excursion to the maginficent National Palace of Mafra. The complex, which includes the Royal Palace, basilica and convent, is the most important monument to Baroque architecture in Portugal.

October 23 - COIMBRA & PORTO - Today you'll say goodbye to Lisbon on the way to Porto and your awaiting ship. On the way, you'll stop in Coimbra for a guided city tour. You'll explore the historical area of the city and learn all about the oldest universtiy in Portugal, one of the oldest in the world.
This afternoon you'll board the Avalon Algeria, a brand new ship just starting its voyages on the Duoro this year.

October 24 - ENTRE EN RIOS, BRAGA & GUIMARÃES - Today you can visit the Interpretation Centre of the Romanesque and enjoy a visit to a 13th century monestary where you'll hear the Gregorian Chant of the high choir.
OR you could choose the world of Celtic history and the reign of Caeser Augustus where five roads diverged to form an empire. Enjoy a guided tour of Braga and then marvel at the magnificent castle and San Miguel church in Guimarães. You'll end your visit with a stop at on the areas many wine farms to enjoy a tasting.
You'll enjoy green winde and gamous pastries this afternoon en route to Régua.

October 25 - PASO DA RÉGUA – Today you can join a tour on one of the oldest farms in the Duoro Valley including an olive oil and wine tasting.
OR you can enjoy a guided walking tour of the charming town of Régua. The narrow streets, beautiful tiles and stained glass window of Casa do Duoro will delight you and you'll enjoy a delicious tasting of bola de Lamego and some sparkling wine in a local pastry shop.
You'll have free time to enjoy browsing the artisanal markets of Pinhão while we're docked overnight.

October 26 - POCINHO – Today enjoy a relaxing cruise to Pocinho.
You might enjoy a guided tour of Freixo de Numão a charming village nestled between two mountatins. You'll visit a local farm for a delightful wine tasting.
OR you could discover Vila Nova de Foz Côa at the eastern terminal of the legendary Duoro Railway line. You'll get to see the amazing pre-historic rock paintings and carvings of Palaeolithic figurations along the River Côa and enjoy sampling some of the unique regional wines.

October 27 - BARCA D'ALVA - Today you can choose to visit one of the most remote villages of the country, Freixo de Expada à Cinta in the Duoro International Natural Park, home to majestic birds of prey.
OR you can join a full-day excursion to the Spainish city of Salamanca. You'll see architecture with Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and "Plateresque" influences in one city. You'll enjoy lunch of toston asado, traditional roast suckling pig.

October 28 - CALDAS DE AREGOS - This morning you'll enjoy sailing back to Porto.
You can enjoy a sightseeing tour of Amarante, against the backdrop of the great Serra do Marão mountain and on the banks of the Tâmega River.
This evening you'll enjoy local musicians onboard performing Fado music.

October 29 - PORTO - Today enjoy a full day free on your own in Porto or you can join one of the active biking or walking tours.
