Chef Ric Orlando of New World Bistro Bar in Albany, NY!

Ric Orlando is a chef and activist working in the Hudson Valley of New York. He directs the Capital Region's award winning New World Bistro Bar.  He has claimed victories on TWO Food Network Series: Beat Bobby Flay & twice on Chopped. He's been people's choice winner Best Chef from both Albany Times Union (2015, 16 & 17) and Hudson Valley Magazine (2014, 15 & 17)

Ric brings an inspired blend of lust for life, outspoken passion for the flavors and ingredients of the world community, and nationally renowned cooking prowess to his roles as chef, lecturer, author, and media source. His tireless work in promoting the products, people, and beauty of the region combined with his quirky sense of humor and rock and roll pedigree has made him one of the Hudson Valley’s leading culinary spokespeople and best foodie draws for events, fundraisers and festivals. Itinerary

MAY 9 - Overnight flight from JFK to  Catania.

MAY 10 - Arrive at Catania Airport. Private transfer from Catania Airport to Hotel in Taormina.  Check-in to Hotel Villa Schuler  4 night stay w/ daily breakfast.

Afternoon Guided Walking Tour and Visit to the highlights of Taormina, including the Greek-Roman Theater.

Tonight, get to know your fellow travelers at our first group dinner together at Osteria Nero d'Avola in Taormina.  (D)

MAY 11 - After breakfast, we'll head to Bronte where we'll visit a pistachio farm with tasting of their products. Then we'll visit a winery on Etna's slope with wine tasting and lunch.

After lunch we'll enjoy time exploring the mountain. Mount Etna is one of the world’s most active volcanoes and is in an almost constant state of activity. In June 2013, it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

We'll return to Taormina for a free evening and dinner at leisure. (B, L)

MAY 12 - Today we will visit the city of Siracusa. With our guide, we will visit the Neapolis Archaelogical Park with its Greek theater, stone quarries, the Altar of Hieron II and the Roman Ampitheatre.

We'll enjoy traditional pizza for lunch at Schiticchio and then enjoy a walking tour and free time in the old town, Ortygia.

Transfer back to Taormina for your evening and dinner at leisure.  (B, L)

MAY 13 - Today is chef's day! We will head down to Catania and meet our local chef who will team up with Ric to guide us through the local market. Ingredients will be chosen for our cooking class and then it's to the kitchen.

We will enjoy the dishes we've prepared along with our chefs for lunch.

This afternoon we will enjoy a guided walking tour of Catania's historical city center and then head back to Taormina for our last night in this beautiful city. Evening and dinner at leisure. (B, L)

MAY 14 - After checkout, we'll head west to Piazza Armerina with a visit to an Olive Oil Mill. See the process that olives go through to create the oil we all love, then enjoy a tasting and light lunch at the farm. After lunch, visit the Roman Villa at Casale in Piazza Armerina.

The Villa Romana del Casale is a large and elaborate Roman villa or palace located about 3 km from the town of Piazza Armerina. Excavations have revealed one of the richest, largest, and varied collections of Roman mosaics in the world, for which the site has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the tour, transfer to Favara to check in to Hotel Alba Palace Favara  2 night stay w/ daily breakfast. Afternoon and dinner at leisure.  (B, L)

MAY 15 - After breakfast, we'll head to Sant’Angelo Muxaro. Upon arrival, enjoy a Private Tour of Sant’Angelo Muxaro with guide; walk among the picturesque village lanes with stops, tastings and encounters. A dairy stop with tasting of cheeses produced by a local family. A bakery stop with a taste of "pani cunzatu" (bread with local olive oil and pepper), almond cookies and honey, etc. We will spend some time with some young shepherds who have given up everything to carry on the family trade of four generations. The tour is completed by a panoramic tour of the natural archaeological area.

Next we go from Sant'Angelo Muxaro to Agrigento. We'll meet our guide for a Guided Tour of Valley of the Temples (Temple of Juno entrance included).

After the tour, transfer back to Favara for the remainder of the afternoon and dinner at leisure. (B, L)

MAY 16 - After check-out, private transfer from Favara to Cefalù. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a walking tour of the city of Cefalù with a visit to local winery with lunch included. Then we'll head to the city of Palermo where you'll have the afternoon and dinner at leisure. Check-in to Hotel Federico II Central Palace  2 night stay w/ daily breakfast. (B, L)

MAY 17 - After breakfast, we'll visit a local candy factory and then enjoy a Private City Tour of Palermo visiting the main highlights of the city, such as the Opera house, the Cathedral, the Four Corners, the “Martonara” Church and San Cataldo.

Afterwards, we'll eat lunch in the world of street-food at the Capo Market in Palermo.

Afternoon at leisure in Palermo, then we'll enjoy a special Farewell Dinner with entertainment at a noble Palazzo. (B, L, D)

MAY 18 - After breakfast and check-out, private transfer to Palermo Airport for flight back to USA. (B)
