4 Top Milestones to Celebrate
4 Top Milestones to Celebrate
Do you remember the excitement you felt as a child when your birthday was getting close and you got to celebrate by having a party with your friends? How about your wedding, did you hold a big party afterwards and then follow it up by going on a Honeymoon with your new spouse to start your lives together?
As time goes by, often we forget how much fun celebrating different life events can be. It’s not just fun for us, it also provides enjoyment for the people we share it with. Why do we recommend celebrating with travel? Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular milestone celebrations and see how travel can make them more memorable.
1 – BIRTHDAYS
We all have them, once a year, so what’s so special about that? The reality is, you’re alive TO celebrate and if you take yourself to a new place, you’ll always remember that birthday as something special. We experience a lot in a year, much of which is just “living”. Why not mark every year by setting aside your one special day to be somewhere you wouldn’t normally find yourself, even if it’s just sitting at a local café enjoying a coffee and treat you wouldn’t normally have. On the bigger birthdays, you know, the “decade markers”, throw yourself a party by taking a vacation during your birthday month and inviting your friends to join you. We had a client spend her 89th birthday with us on a group trip in Ireland! Experiencing other places can be life changing and what better time to do that than on your birthday?
2 – ANNIVERSARIES
This is similar to birthdays in that they come around every year, but they are something even more special. You and your spouse work HARD to stay together and make a better life for yourselves and your family. With divorce rates as high as they are, you bet you ought to celebrate your commitment to each other every year! The standard going out to dinner is lovely, but why not take each other away on a romantic weekend to really enjoy each other? When you get out of your own surroundings, you don’t take each other for granted and you tend to realize how much fun you still have spending time together. For the BIG anniversaries, why not invite the family to come along and celebrate with you? We just had a couple celebrate their 20th anniversary on a cruise with their 16 year old and mother-in-law. Set the example of what a good relationship is by sharing it!
3 – GRADUATIONS/PROMOTIONS
What better way to say, “Congratulations!!” than by rewarding yourself (or your loved one) with a getaway? You work hard to graduate or to move up the ranks and finally achieve that promotion. You deserve to celebrate and take some well needed time off. Planning a vacation to be your reward after reaching your goal also provides incentive to keep pushing towards those goals! We had a family last year celebrate their daughter’s college graduation by putting together a family group cruise for their extended family to celebrate together. It was so successful, they are doing it again for their youngest daughter graduating from high school next year!
4 – RETIREMENT
If you have worked hard all of your life and are finally at a point where you can retire, it’s time to go exploring! All of those years of being diligent and productive, maybe watching other people take great vacations that you didn’t have time for, is now behind you and you have nothing but time to do what YOU want. Go see that exotic place that you’ve heard about or the one city that caught your attention in the books that you read. We had a client celebrate their retirement by doing a 3 week tour of Italy to enjoy the sites, the culture and the food. It was time for them to live their dreams!
